MANGA BY MEMORY #2
Forte
Not too long from now, I’ll be going on a very long trip to a miserable place. Life there will be hard in of itself, but I think the hardest part will come when I leave. I’ll be so behind on major world events, internet drama, and the media that I enjoy. In any case, I need to get my affairs in order, including things that I want to do before I go to that hell on earth. One of those things is making another Manga by Memory. It’s October, horror month, which means…nothing really. I’m a little rushed for time. There’s a lot I need to prepare for and much I need to practice, so I'm just going to grab some random manga I'm sure I've read and talk about them. Remember, these are reviews based on my memory of these manga, so the story details may be wrong.
JC no Life!/ Junior High School Girl's Story/ジェイシーノーライフ
Engiyoshi
Pervy joke manga centered around a group of middle school girls. The humor mainly comes from the girls misunderstanding each other or the implication that the girls are really doing something obscene. Good as far as I can remember.
Saguri-chan Tankentai/ Saguri-chan Expedition Party/さぐりさん探検隊
Akiyama Yoco
A one-shot and manga series where a boy, and eventually a few others, go on urban explorations with a cute girl. The most memorable aspect of this manga is the beautiful color pages. Good manga as far as my memory is concerned, but I remember it having a pretty shitty ending. Keep that in mind.
Pokémon - Dating a Team Magma Grunt/마그마단 조무래기랑 사귀는 만화
Gooberman (Kdk5011)
This is a Korean webcomic that went into hiatus when its author was conscripted into the military and hasn’t come back to this day. Considering that it was originally made when Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire were the latest Pokémon games, it’s safe to say the series is dead. It’s a cute romcom about the male protagonist Brendan dating a Team Magma grunt. The story has all of the Pokémon goodness to it and is worth reading.
Uzumaki/ The Spiral/うずまき
Ito Junji
Looks Like I am including a horror manga on this list. I remember checking this one out of my high school’s library many years ago. This work takes place in a small Japanese town surrounded by mountains. The story is mostly told in small, loosely connected bits that feel like their own stories. However, the terror always comes in the form of spirals. Everything I can remember about this manga feels like a spoiler, so I won’t say anything more about it. I remember liking Uzumaki a lot though!
Apparently, an anime adaptation is coming out as I write this, but it’s not doing too hot among critics. Sad.
Game no Naka ni Iru!/ In the Game!/ ゲームの中にいる!
Eguchi Noromu
Well, it seems like I do have a horror story to end this off on. It’s just not the kind that anyone would expect. Three girls get sucked into a generic clone of a Dragon Quest game. The manga is pretty much a mediocre comedy told in a 4-koma format and follows a standard style of Japanese joketelling. Where this manga actually stands out is its bizarre ending that has an entirely different tone than the rest of the thing. A very unsettling tone. Adding to the creepiness, the author deleted their Twitter and Pixiv accounts upon completing the manga with no notice beforehand. This manga did nothing for me, and I don't care for it, but it has some interesting lore behind it, don't you think?
And that’s all I have for you right now. I wish I could set a new post to be uploaded in the month I’ll be gone, but I don’t think that will be possible for me. So, dear readers, I have a request for you. Please keep me in your memories.
